World Oceans Day

This year the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is going to be centered around the restoration of our living shorelines.  In September of 2018, North Carolina's coastline was rocked by Hurricane Florence.  Our tagline for World Oceans Day 2019 is "Restore the Shore".  We will be facilitating marsh grass planting onsite, as well as activities and crafts in our Discovery Classroom.  We will also be hosting book readings from a local author throughout the day.

Learn about what YOU can do to help the oceans, starting right here in Delaware. The Chesapeake Mermaid will be here to tell her tales from the bay and introduce you to her wildlife friends. Come for story time and stay for meet and greets with photo opportunities. Even take home a copy of her storybook, The Last Bivalvian! Additionally, the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary will join us as we focus on oyster conservation! Partners of PDE’s Oyster Shell Recycling Program will be on hand for oyster tasting and beer stations will also be open during the event.

This event will emphacize that even in NE Kansas, so far from the nearest ocean shoreline, we still make decisions daily that can have a huge positive impact on the health of the world's oceans. 

Outside agency education booths, and zoo booths and activities will convey the message that we can make decisions daily to reduce damage to our oceans, and change behavior to improve ocean health. 

Seafood from the Seafood Watch green list will be grilled and served on the zoos sidewalks around the zoo, along with the message on the importance of Seafood Watch.

Санкт-Петербургский Океанариум совместно с Районным центром культуры и молодежных инициатив Ломоносовского района проведут мероприятия, посвященные Всемирному дню океанов, на территории побережья Финского залива в поселке Большая Ижора .

Программа дня 8 июня 2019 года:

  • сбор мусора на побережье;
  • познавательные лекции на тему загрязнения океанов;
  • тематические детские игры, конкурсы и мастер-классы;
  • награждение участников мероприятия памятными сувенирами и подарками.

Saint-Petersburg Oceanarium will hold the events with the Regional Center of Culture and youth initiatives of Lomonosov district. On June 8, 2019 we're going to the hamlet Big Izhora, which is located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland close to Saint-Petersburg, for a beach clean-up.

Together we plan:

  • to clean the coast;
  • to organize educational lectures about the ocean pollution;
  • to organize children's games, contests and master classes;
  • to  reward the participants of the event with souvenirs and gifts.

Celebrate World Oceans Day with a cooking class featuring sustainably farmed seafood. This package includes: 2 Demo Class Registrations, Dinner on Friday (in your class), Accommodations & Breakfast!

Sustainable Aquaculture Class Friday at 6:30 pm
Learn to create three great dishes with sustainably farmed seafood:
• NS Mussels cooked in Garlic, Onion & Tidal Bay Wine, served with Baguette
• Selva Shrimp Salad with Avocado, Greens & Citrus Vinaigrette
• Sustainable Blue Salmon Tacos with Spiced Cucumber Salsa
• Flying Apron Luscious Lemon Tart

Sit back, relax and let Chef Chris make your dinner! In our demo classes you get to watch and learn from the Chef over 2 hours. Share a full meal with your classmates during the demo and take home the recipes for the dishes made in the class. Our beautiful Cookery School kitchen is licensed so you may order local beer and wine from our drink list to enjoy during your class.

After your class, retire to your beautiful Inn room for the night. A hot, fresh breakfast is included!

World Oceans Day Creative Writing and Art Competition

Seascape Artists Robin Souter and Joe Little are holding an exhibition to raise awareness of World Oceans Day.

The exhibition will run from Sat 8th June until Sun 16th June 2019. There will also be Workshops on ocean plastics and recycling.

Local high school students, key stage 3 to 5, are invited to enter a Creative Writing and Art competition. There are 4 categories:

 1. Short Story (max 500 words)

2. Poetry

3. Artwork drawing/painting/print/digital/mixed media (max 1mx1m)

4. Artwork sculpture/pottery/ceramics/modelling (max dimensions 1mx3)

Winning entries will be displayed at Westbury Arts Centre Gallery from Sat 8th until Sun 16th June.
