The restoration of adulterated rivers has gained importance during the past year in most parts of the world. Rivers are essential water resources which are being transformed due to urbanization, causing threats to the people and their environment. According to a survey conducted last 2010, Calapan River ranked no. 5 as one of the most polluted rivers in the country. It is an 11-kilometer long river that cuts through the City of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro. A huge development along the river occurred after the municipality transformed itself into a component city. This activity lead to rapid deterioration of the river. The rehabilitation of the river is compulsory due to the fact that both endemic and economically important species can still be found in the river. In addition to this is the existence of mangroves that serve as home and barrier for underwater species despite its unwanted state.
